What if those old school travel postcards about the Caribbean actually told the truth?
There’s no debating the Floria Keys have changed but it’s still fun and heartbreaking to look back at how it used to be. The following postcards were created with that in mind. Postcards celebrating smuggling, rooster fights, native islanders (called Conchs), and old island traditions.
Back in the day, going to rooster fights was like going to a little league baseball game, minus the gambling, animal cruelty and overall unbecoming behavior.
In the early the 80’s the entire island got behind one massive drug deal that became infamously known as the Big Pine 29. It was a whole thing. A lot of people went to jail.
When I was a kid I imagined they enlisted fisherman the same way they enlisted serviceman.
